Chloe Wise bread bags

This is a project by artist Chloe Wise who mixes the world of fashion with food by creating contemporary art in leather, paint and urethane.

Chloe Wise became famous for a project that revolves around this world, Bread Bags, is a set of sculptures that mix oil paint with leather and urethane materials, reinterpreting iconic models of bags in the form of food.

Using pancakes, bagels, toast and sandwiches, these works are done to the smallest detail and range from simple food to trendy food. The artist plays with themes of luxury and consumerism, recreating with food some of the most emblematic goods of the fashion industry.

Bags, backpacks and tote bags from big brands like Prada, Chanel and Louis Vuitton are reinvented in pancake, toast, bagel and bread shapes, giving rise to: Sticky grilled cheese sandwich triangles form the plush pattern of a Prada bag and pancakes silver dollar sticks with syrup stack to make a Chanel shoulder bag. Cast in urethane and intricately painted with a hyper-realism that constitutes a trompe l’oeil effect, it wisely recontextualizes expensive goods as art objects rather than purchases.
