Hama, a student of Japanese art, made sushi pieces with hand-polished stones that refer to traditional Japanese dishes. This was a project for his university thesis, the dish not only reveals tuna, shrimp, negitoro and uni, but also certain parts of the body.
Nowadays, these pieces of art are on display in a joint exhibition of 5 universities in Tokyo, at the national art center. Hama tells us that the inspiration for this project is associated with his partial work in a restaurant, where they serve fresh fish, with waste being one of his references. With the allusion to body parts, the artist intends to create a relationship between the cycle of life and death.
Hama mentions in a post on twitter that the reason why he mixed the human body with food is related to the theme of loss of food that is primarily a living existence, this was elaborated with the desire to shape the visualization of actions and to value food.
